COACHES UPDATE FOR WINTER 2023

9&Unders

Most of the Under 9’s team is new to the club this season or new to netball all together or both. A few have also come across from our Lil’Ladybirds program. They have all grown so much so far this season and shown enthusiasm towards the game and the team. Coaching them so far has been fantastic!

Under 11’s Red The team have put in a solid start to the season and have gelled as a team. We have been working. On maintaining our structures and game play for 4 quarters, especially against the top team! Having only 7players has been challenging and fitness will definitely be a factor as we head to the pointy end of the season. But we are currently sitting 2nd of the ladder and looking forward to the challenge.

Under 11’s Blac

The girls have all massively improved their skills and understanding of the game so far this season. It has been rough on the girls with only 7 players, but they have given it their all every game and that has been clear with a so far undefeated season.

Under 13’s Black

This team is made up of a great bunch of girls. They have all improved their skills as the season has progressed. They play as a team, never give up and are always positive even when playing some difficult games. It has been a pleasure to coach them this season.

Inters

This season has been a rough season so far. We are possibly not in the division that we should be in, but the girls are putting in all they have. Some great friendships have emerged and some maturing of personalities. We haven’t won many games at all, but there is definite improvement being shown. If you watch these girls play, they are far better than the final results are displaying.

Seniors The team struggled at the beginning of the season as they went to 15-minute quarters. So as part of our training, we have worked on our fitness, and this has helped the team come together really well. We started the season with 9 players, but unfortunately lost a player early in the season due to starting a family and later lost another due to injury. We have however been very fortunate to pick up one of the Inter players into our team. We are winning some games and losing some to the top teams. We are currently sitting 4th on the ladder and have a great chance to be in finals at the end of the season.

Seeking Players As you all know, Ladybirds is a community orientated, fun and well-established netball club and we are always wanting our club to keep growing and developing. To support this desired growth, we are encouraging members to invite members of the community that they know to come and join our club. To support this, we have introduced an incentive program for all current Ladybirds families. This incentive program allows a current ladybirds member to bring a new player to the club and both the current and new member will receive a $50 Westfield gift card from the club. Spread the word about how great our club is to help us continue to grow.

Umpiring We have had a very big achievement within our ladybirds umpires this season. One of our Ladybirds in white, Kekoa, has achieved herNational B badge in umpiring. This is an amazing achievement, and we are very proud of Kekoa’s efforts. A massive thankyou to SUNA and the SUNA mentoring group for developing Kekoa and other umpires who show the skills for growth to be selected in our senior Div 1 pool. If you or your child have ever thought about becoming an umpire, please contact us umpiring@ladybirdsnetball.com so that we can support this interest. After all, there is no game without our amazing umpires.

Lil’ Ladybirds The Lil’ Ladybirds development program is a 6-week program that invites children aged 4-8 to come and give netball a try. They will be introduced to the basic skills of netball in a fun and inclusive way. Our current Lil' Ladybirds program is well underway with a group as they enter their 3rd week of the 6-week program. All the players are energetic and eager to participate in some shape or form which is a very positive sign. We are looking forward to seeing if any of our Lil’Ladybirds sign up for the 2023/24 Summer season.
